Sacred Luminosity exhibition: Angela Roberts-Bird Gallery, Gasworks Art Park. March 2021

This most recent body of work, “Sacred Luminosity” is an exploration of light, a glowing source just out of reach, an indication of other worlds beyond what we can see. It is also my lifeline as I struggle to reclaim a sense of play in my creative process as I come back to my personal painting practice after a decade of creating for others in the Events industry.

Cloudscapes are the metaphor for my emotional world. The light obscured by the clouds resonates with me as I see my internal patterns of hiding, keeping small, wanting to feel safe but sabotaging myself in the process. But there is still hope and curiosity to move through and see what is on the other side of fear and insecurity.

With each piece I have tried to be immediate and intuitive so as not to second guess myself and have a more authentic response. I have used a variety of mixed media and experimented with oil pastels as the final layer creating energetic lines and glowing hues.

“Sacred Luminosity” has been a reminder for me to quieten, tune into my authentic truth and that amidst the inner emotional turmoil remember there is a bigger picture.
